The Building Readers Club is your guide to explore the world of architecture, engineering, construction, and design found in the pages of children’s books. The primary educational program of the National Building Museum’s exhibition Building Stories, the Club provides suggested books to read and monthly activities to inspire children to find their place within the world and become active participants in their own neighborhoods and built communities.
Program Schedule:
Doors Open: 10 am
Tabling activities and reading nooks: 10 am to –2 pm
Move and create with Imagination Stage (geared toward 7 and under): 10:30 am to 12 pm
Build a visual story with CREATE Arts Center (geared toward 8 and up): 12 to –2 pm
Hear from authors Raúl The Third and Gale Galligan on their creative processes: 12 to 12:45 pm
Book signing: 12:45 to 1:45 pm
About Raúl the Third
Raúl The Third is a four-time Pura Belpre award-winning illustrator, author, and artist living in the Boston area with his wife, colorist Elaine Bay. He is the illustrator of the critically acclaimed Low Riders in Space series and the World of ¡Vamos! books. His work centers around the contemporary Mexican American experience and his memories of growing up in El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
About Gale Galligan
Gale Galligan is the creator of the New York Times bestselling Baby-sitters Club graphic novel adaptations of Dawn and the Impossible Three, Kristy's Big Day, Boy-Crazy Stacey, and Logan Likes Mary Anne! by Ann M. Martin. They are also the creator of Freestyle, an original graphic novel that they both wrote and illustrated. When they aren't making comics, Gale enjoys knitting, drumming, and spending time with their family and adorable pet rabbits in Pearl River, New York.
