DATE: Thursday 9/11/25   TIME: 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Bridge designer and architect Miguel Rosales will discuss his new book, Bridges as Structural Art, which explores twenty-five transformative bridge projects across the U.S. and abroad. Known for iconic designs such as Boston’s Zakim Bridge, the Liberty Bridge in Greenville, South Carolina, and the Woodrow Wilson Bridge in Washington, D.C., Rosales has shaped urban landscapes through structures that are both visually striking and deeply integrated with their surroundings. His work reflects a commitment to innovation, community engagement, and design excellence.

Following his presentation, Rosales will be joined in conversation by architectural photographer Alan Karchmer, whose photographs are featured throughout the book. A book signing will follow the program.

About Alan Karchmer

Alan Karchmer’s life in photography began while studying architecture at Tulane University where he received his Masters in Architecture in 1978. His work draws on the foundation of his education in architecture to understand how to read buildings and tell their stories through photographs that speak with an authoritative sense of form, space, texture, and light, with images that convey a strong sense of presence and experience. Karchmer’s clients include winners of the Pritzker Prize, The AIA Gold Medal and Firm Awards, and the Royal Gold Medal of the RIBA. The archive of his body of work is a promised gift to the National Building Museum which mounted the retrospective exhibition “Alan Karchmer: The Architects’ Photographer” 2021-2023.
