The Land is Full: Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects

DATE: Wednesday 4/16/25   TIME: 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Thomas Woltz, senior principal and owner of Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, will present the firm’s new monograph, The Land Is Full: Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects, exploring how landscape design reveals ecological and cultural histories. He will highlight twelve major projects that engage sensitive sites, such as burial grounds, Indigenous lands, and threatened natural habitats. Notable projects include a reclaimed burial ground near the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Memorial Park in Houston, and the Aga Khan Garden in Alberta. Woltz will discuss how these designs create meaningful public spaces and preserve lost histories. Following the talk, Woltz will join Thaïsa Way, director of Garden & Landscape Studies at Dumbarton Oaks, for a conversation on the significance of cultural landscapes and the importance of uncovering erased histories.
