On this exclusive building tour, explore Virginia Tech’s Academic Building One, the first academic facility at the university’s Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. Located in the heart of Potomac Yard, the building brings together graduate programs in engineering and business, the Institute for Advanced Computing, University Libraries, and student services for the Washington, D.C., area.
The tour will be led by Dave Wilder, senior director of DC building operations at Virginia Tech, Sven Shockey, vice president and design director at SmithGroup, and Patricia Halaby, senior principal at SmithGroup. Together, they will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the building’s energy-efficient design, including rooftop solar panels and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), as well as its flexible interior spaces, such as the drone testing cage. Attendees will learn how the building supports research, instruction, and collaboration.
